PANZER - 5 Land Cruiser Gun Truck CEN 1063, Level B6 |
| |
|
The Panzer 5 is a light armored vehicle with a GVM of 3500 kg, ensuring that it can be operated without specialized training by persons. The Panzer 5 is a re-manufactured RG32 Scout, modernized with the Land cruiser drivetrain, fitted with a turbo charger and intercooler for maximum performance. It offers a protection against weapons up to and including 7.62 x 51mm and 5.56 x 45mm NATO ball ammunition.
|
|
| The vehicle is small, maneuverable and similar in size as commercial light delivery vehicles, thus avoiding the attention attracted by and aggressive appearance of larger vehicles. Cosmetically, the lines of the vehicle are soft and conducive to peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. |
| |
Body
The crew compartment consists of an all-steel welded armour capsule to which chassis sub-frames are bolted. The engine compartment and the rear section of the 5-man version are not ballistically protected. |
|
Windows
Windows are of ballistic laminated glass of the same protection rating as the steel body and may be fitted with firing ports as an option. Doors open wide to permit easy mounting and dismounting and are fitted with heavy-duty,
positive locking slam locks. |

Engine and Transmission
The Scout is powered by a Toyota Land cruiser 6-cylinder water-cooled, turbo charged diesel engine with direct fuel injection, which is coupled to an automatic transmission. Top speed is 150 km/h. |
|
Interior
The Scout is fitted with comfortable, upholstered seats (adjustable for the driver and co-driver). Plain, but effective instrumentation and controls are fitted which are easily accessible to the driver. As much of the Toyota Land cruiser's interior is transferred to the Panzer 5 as is possible. This would include the dashboard. |
Protection
The crew capsule is protected to a level of 7,62 x 51mm and 5,56 x 45mm NATO ball ammunition and against a variety of grenades, firebombs and thrown missiles. Protection includes the firewall, roof and floor - areas often neglected in up-armored vehicles. |
